By convention, Storyspace documents should begin with a start writing space, which should give you some information and tips about using them.Īs that text explains, to move on to the next writing space, you can press the Return key or click (tap) anywhere within that text view at the right. When start is selected, the view at the right of the window displays its contents. If start is not selected (indicated by eight small light grey squares around it), or you accidentally select another component there, simply click on start to select it again. Move the contents of the Map view so that the component (a writing space, or note if you prefer) labelled start, which should be outlined in red, is at the top left corner of the view. Window controls are conventional, and moving the map around within its view also uses normal controls (two-fingered drag if you’re using a trackpad, for example). You may need to adjust the size of the window, and to move the map around within the view to see it properly. In the first tab, headed Map: FallOfIcarus2, you see a map of the document, shown in terms of its various component parts, wired together with links. You should see a single window split into two views, with a second tab. Open Storyspace Reader and the FallOfIcarus2.tbx document provided here in a Zip file: falloficarus You can save those to your personal copy of the hypertext document. Storyspace Reader lets you customise much of the reading environment, from basics such as the window size and your current location in the document, to many aspects of its colour scheme. Unless the hypertext document has been made read-only, you will notice immediately that you can save it, although you cannot alter its structure or content. Open the app, use the File/Open command to select the document you want to read, and it opens in its own window, ready to go. Storyspace Reader works as you’d expect all good Mac apps to work. But knowing the rich features of Storyspace Reader will help you get the most out of hypertext documents. This does not mean that reading hypertext requires elaborate skills, or much learning. Because you are in control of much more in a Storyspace hypertext, there are more controls, and many more features in Storyspace Reader. Hypertext can have a very simple structure, but it can offer sophistication at a level which you are only likely to encounter in advanced games or virtual reality.īook readers normally have few, simple controls: turn the page forward or backward, go to the table of contents or index, and so on. Reading hypertext is very different from browsing web pages, or reading a book using iBooks or Kindle.

If I get a customer who's confused, I simply rev up my ScreenSteps and in 10 minutes that customer has a clear idea of what to do next.” - Sean D'Souza, With Screensteps it was, and has always been a breeze. Then format them, and before I knew it 45 minutes had passed. Normally I'd have to take screenshots then put them in some word-based application. I was able to write documentation in a matter of 10 minutes or less. “I didn't think I needed "yet another screen capture" application. What surprised me was that ScreenSteps was completely different. But getting in the door $2500/yr for small business doesn't work. I don't even need to integrate it so much into web sites, just want to use it to make documentation that is simple, consistent, fast, concise and easy to update/modify. Pricing Could we get a $300 version with 5 contributors? I mean, I could probably sell it to a whole company based on using the software to make awesome, quick documentation and then have different departments ask me what I use and then teaching them to use screensteps. Screensteps put me on steroids and I was able to use just one program instead of three and maintain consistency throughout documentation and created documents that were clear to both end users or other IT people for the back end tasks that I had to learn for the first time on a daily basis - I had confidence that I could use my own screensteps instructions to give to others or re-read when I forgot the 20 steps it took to get adobe enterprise integrated into the active directory domain! CONS Just so you know, I'm super quick with screenshots (Windows shift + S), paste to mspaint, markup image, copy/paste to word doc. I could put together complicated documentation for processes complete with screenshots, consistent numbering of steps, easy to use inserts of images, text, number bubbles. Once set up, it works great, works fast, love it, wish I could afford it for my current company, I'd buy it in a heartbeat! Some parts are technical and difficult in initial setup, the support is good though, definitely need an IT person doing the set up. I'd never bother with the desktop application again. I wish there were an integration that would allow me to use SnagIt to capture screenshots and insert them directly into the web-based editor. It does have a built-in screen capture tool, but the capture options are limited compared to tools like SnagIt. ScreenSteps' desktop application is a little buggy and feels outdated, even if it's not. When major changes happen, such a big update to a software's UI, this can mean updating thousands of screenshots across hundreds of articles - with no easy/efficient means to do so. CONSīecause it's so easy to create ScreenSteps articles, and because articles are written in bite-sized pieces, you can quickly end up with hundreds of pages of content that need to be maintained. ScreenSteps works equally well in both situations, for both products. Two of these products require very different site settings (one is open to the public, the other is private and for customers only) and are developed by very different teams with very different communication styles. As my company's sole technical communicator, I run multiple ScreenSteps sites for different products. ScreenSteps is also loaded with useful features that can be flexibly incorporated into a team's documentation process. Other than the amazing customer support? ScreenSteps does exactly what it says it does - it enables teams to write beautiful, professional-looking online help documentation, FAST. The AI is fairly good and can be quite aggressive at times so it’s vital to be aware of their position on the track around you. Essentially you’ll be driving defensively, covering your line, knocking others out when you have a good chance to continue without issue. In FlatOut mode you get bonuses for causing crashes via extra nitro but if you can’t successfully pull off a collision and recover quickly the chances of getting a podium finished are reduced. The mode you’ll probably be spending the most time with is the FlatOut race mode.įlatOut mode is all about racing, avoiding being crashed into and getting to the front position. This mode is later extended in Carnage with powerups that increase car weight, increase hit damage or restore your car’s health. Along with the race modes you’ll get derbies, which are basically just small confined areas where your objective is to crash into others while protecting yourself. It’s worth noting that although the tracks do repeat they often change the time of day so things look a little different even if you are still going the same way on the same road. The quality extends to the tracks, which are nicely lighted and feature guard rails on corners to keep the car in forward motion. There are suitable and not overdone blur effects when nitro is engaged, the sparks, dust and dirt effects are also excellent to see in motion. Graphically UC is also a pretty nice looking game it’s very clean, cars start off shiny and crisp with a nice chrome finish and end up looking like a mangled mess barely dragging themselves across the finish line. Thankfully the physics objects in UC won’t knock you around as much as FlatOut 2, so small objects won’t send you flying and only partially impede your steering around corners. The included tracks are very similar to FlatOut 2 and it’s a pity there aren’t more new tracks here, but the existing ones are well constructed with jumps and alternate routes. Damaging cars and the environment adds to your nitro boost helping you speed up if you’ve just had a relatively large crash. There are easily hundreds of physics objects to destroy or otherwise send flying about, and cars get suitably damaged during the course of a race, especially longer races. You can then manoeuvre your driver in the air or launch him further with a nudge.Īs a pure arcade destructive racer FlatOut UC thrives on its own. To perform a stunt you simply drive a car to a launch zone then force your driver to crash out and fly through the windscreen into the air at a certain angle and speed. The stunts associated with both carnage and race mode range from ski jumps, goal scoring, darts, cards and ten pin bowling. Carnage mode is a tiered series of races and stunts in which you attempt to get points to unlock the next events, which includes a beat the bomb race mode. FlatOut mode is like the previous games, a series of events in which you need a podium finish in races to progress, also featuring unlockable stunts and time trials once events have been completed. It has two broad game modes, FlatOut and Carnage, along with single race events and multiplayer. As you slam into undisturbed items you get a nitro boost, you also get boosts for crashing into AI opponents encouraging you to smash each other in order to gain speed and the lead. Like FO2 the race tracks are littered with objects like barrels, cars, barns, rocks, lampposts and devastation is created by simply racing around a track crashing into things either on purpose or accidentally. It’s a highly polished version of FlatOut 2 with a few new modes, graphical enhancements and gameplay tweaks. FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage is an arcade racing game featuring high speed crashes and loads of destruction. The inaugural class of Yale-NUS students arrived on campus in fall 2013.A funny thing happened on the way to Kansas. “Ultimately, we decided that the risks, when balanced against the opportunity to create an entirely new liberal arts educational experience in Asia, were worth it.” “When Yale engaged with the National University of Singapore to plan Yale-NUS College, we knew that Singapore had more restrictive laws about some kinds of political speech than the United States,” Salovey said. Salovey added that when the plans for Yale-NUS were first laid out, Yale administrators were careful to examine the issue of academic freedom in the country. University President Peter Salovey, who is a board member of Yale-NUS, said he believes Lewis’s engagement with the MDA on issues of academic freedom may ultimately have a “wider, positive impact.” “If Tan Pin Pin were to allow a screening, even inside the closed walls of Yale-NUS, she might run that risk.” “Artists and dissidents in Singapore are regularly brought to heel by libel suits which result in devastating, bankrupting punitive damages,” Miller said. Sleeper added that Yale has never depended on “special permission” from a government agency to use books or show films.Īlthough Tan has not commented on why she would not allow a screening at Yale-NUS, Miller suggested that her unwillingness to show the film at the college could be a further confirmation of the power of the state in Singapore. Political science lecturer Jim Sleeper said the MDA’s broad suppression of the film is incompatible with the values of liberal education. Bailyn could not be reached for comment for this story. In 2012 inaugural Yale-NUS Dean of Faculty Charles Bailyn said the Singaporean government promised the school complete freedom with “the core mission of the college” - researching, teaching and unfettered discussion on campus. “Freedom of expression at Yale-NUS is an illusion, celebrated by those inside its bubble, but now revealed as limited and therefore phony.” But freedom for which you have to ask permission - as in this case - is, by definition, not freedom,” said French and African American Studies professor Christopher Miller. “Yale-NUS claims to be a place of free expression. Yale-NUS administrators initially drew public praise for their plans to screen the banned film, including from University President Peter Salovey.īut the confusion over Yale-NUS’s ability to show the film has prompted some - including faculty members who have been skeptical of the Singaporean project since its 2009 conception - to again raise questions about whether the college is truly the bastion of free speech that it has repeatedly claimed to be, within a country that otherwise imposes restrictions on speech. Lewis said the MDA “had no problems with our plans” because the school planned to show the film for academic and educational purposes. On Friday, Yale-NUS spokesperson Fiona Soh said the college no longer plans to show the film, due to Tan’s unwillingness to have it screened in Singapore.īefore planning to show the film, the school explicitly asked permission from the MDA, according to Yale-NUS President Pericles Lewis. Tan, who did not respond to requests for comment, wrote on her Facebook page that despite Lewis’s statement to the News, there are no plans to show “To Singapore, with Love” at Yale-NUS, adding that Yale-NUS administrators have not contacted her for permission to screen the film. Last week, Yale-NUS administrators said they planned to show the film as part of a course and received MDA permission to do so - but Tan Pin Pin, the maker of the film, announced publicly last Thursday that she would not allow for the film to be shown at Yale-NUS. The controversy over “To Singapore, with Love” began in early September when the Singaporean Media Development Authority, or MDA, deemed the film a threat to national security and prevented any screening or distribution of it in Singapore, albeit with specific allowances for certain educational showings. Recent events surrounding the planned showing of a banned film at Yale-NUS have suggested that free expression on the Singaporean campus is not absolute. The entire work area will then be cleaned and operation restored to the offline unit. The tube sheets and water box will be pressure washed as well.

The Tooth Fairy has been spreading through America’s children ever since. The first recorded mention of the Tooth Fairy is found in a children’s play written by Esther Watkins Arnold back in 1927. The Tooth Fairy as we know it in American is a combination of this magical mouse and the more general idea of special fairies. One European folk myth involved a magical mouse who visited children’s rooms and carried away their baby teeth. Teeth are the only body part that healthy children naturally lose, so many different superstitions developed regarding teeth. From burying teeth to burning them, most children expect something special to happen to their teeth. Most societies have some ritual that rules lost baby teeth. Worldwide, many other traditions about baby teeth have evolved over the years. Our modern idea of the tooth fairy has a long history that draws from many different backgrounds. Have you ever wondered where this tradition started and why it’s so common among Indianapolis pediatric dental families? Learn more about the Tooth Fairy with Pediatric Dentistry West and see how this fun story can help keep your child’s mouth healthy. This magical sprite visits children who’ve lost a tooth, usually leaving money under pillows during their visit. The Tooth Fairy is probably one of your family’s favorite visitors. Each of a Temtem's two types are taken into consideration for the effectiveness of an attack. Effective hits deal double their normal damage, while ineffective hits only deal half damage. The damage dealt by each type of Technique can be modified to be unusually strong or weak when hitting certain types of Temtem. Toxic Temtem are immune to the Poisoned Condition. They are most plentiful on the surface of Tucma, but also thrive in the underbelly of Arbury. Represented by the color black, Toxic Temtem are hazardous creatures associated with toxins, which thrive in otherwise hostile and unsafe environments.Deep under the surface of Tucma, it is said that all Crystal Temtem originate from the Seed Stone in the heart of Quetzal. Represented by the color magenta, Crystal Temtem are often elusive creatures that heavily associate crystals and minerals into their appearances.Represented by the color orange, Melee Temtem are physically aggressive creatures that value and embody raw strength, often paired with imposing appearances.Originally created in the labs of Cipanku, they are still almost entirely exclusive to that island. Represented by the color gray, Digital Temtem are biomechanical constructs with varying degrees of similarity to more "organic" animals.Mental Temtem are immune to the Asleep Condition. The type is most common on the island of Arbury. Represented by the color purple, Mental Temtem are largely elusive creatures, often with high intelligence and psychic capabilities. They live prominently in the wilderness of Cipanku with few exceptions. Represented by the color yellow, Electric Temtem harness the powers of electricity, from magnetism to thunderclouds and lightning. They can be found on several islands but are closely tied to Omninesia and its mythical Giant Banyan. Represented by the color green, Nature Temtem embody plant life and the spirit of nature, and are often plant-like in appearance.Fire Temtem are immune to the Burned Condition. They are most at home in the mighty Anak Volcano, in Omninesia. Represented by the color red, Fire Temtem are powerful elemental creatures that often have fiery and aggressive appearances. They can be found anywhere there is water but are associated most heavily with Deniz and its Sillaro River. Represented by the color blue, Water Temtem are closely tied to bodies of water and often resemble aquatic animals. They are a common occurrence in the plains of Kisiwa. Represented by the color brown, Earth Temtem are attuned to the land, often including rocky or sandy aesthetics in their design.Represented by the color cyan, Wind Temtem are associated with the air, and all resemble birds or other winged animals. They are prevalent across many islands but are most prominently featured on Kisiwa. Represented by the color white, Neutral Temtem cover a wide range of characteristics, often resembling wild animals. There is a total of 12 different types in Temtem: The effects and damage of most Techniques can also vary based on the typing of the Temtem using it, or in the case of synergy effects, the typing of the user's ally. Techniques only deal damage of a single type, which determines is effectiveness against targeted Temtem. Each Temtem can have up to two types, which determine the effectiveness of different status effects and different types of Techniques. Each type carries different properties, as well as a specific array of strengths and weaknesses against other types. Refer to the following chart to know what each type matches up well against.Types are elemental properties assigned to both Temtem and their Techniques. Here are what each type is strong and weak against. Knowing the Type’s strengths and weaknesses is the key to building an effective and balanced team. It’s no good sending a coromon out into a fight that it simply can’t win due to a poor Type match up. |
